Chunni

Yesterday was a really exciting evening! Aunty took us to the market to buy some Chunnies; the shop she took us to was the last in one of the side streets of the market. There were Tailors sitting in front of  many of the tiny shops, sewing on their machines.  The stores appear small from the outside but are vertical, so climbing two floors, we realised how big it was. The whole shop was filled with the most adorable fabrics you could imagine; they had various fabrics in silk, cotton and synthetic in the most amazing colours and prints. A lot of the tie dye fabrics, bhandej and other were still tied up and showed their true beauty once opened. We spent an hour unravelling and photographing hundreds of tied fabrics, wondering about how they were made.
It is unusual concept to us Europeans to buy a full salwar set, consisting of a Chunni and fabric for the Salwa and top made from matching colours and prints. We all bought some gorgeous fabrics but most weren’t finished properly so we took advantage of the tailors outside and got them to stitch the edges for us.

At Rangsutra we are at the moment just working on our documentations, designs and organizing all our trips for next week.
