Genious re- visited

Today we asked to pay a visit to our wonderful friend Mr. Muhammed Iqbal and we were once again welcomed with open arms into his home, this time to get down to some real tie and dye business...

Iqbal ji wanted to show us some new and unusual techniques beyond what we had learnt the previous time around, and he absolutely delivered.
He had already dyed some base colours in anticipation of our arrival and the colours were mind blowing; sherberty pink, warm violets and pumpkin hues, almost flourescent oranges and vivid lime greens.

We learnt to create pieces that looked like hot lava and lightening, we learnt to create circles and paisleys and shibori and all manner of techniques in between.
Every time a new fabric was unravelled the place resounded with the sounds of our amazement as none of us expected the results from each technique. We could tell however that when Iqbal tied a fabric, he was actually visualising the finished product first and imagining how to create that patterning.
His sons were equally as visionary as he and were tying and dyeing large orders in the brightest magentas,  orange and red hues. We were a little envious in all honesty as growing up with a father who is such a mastermind at something so beautiful, you could only imagine how proud they would be to follow in his footsteps and learn from the best.
Christina and Kaveri were given the chance to make- up their own tying technique and the results were brilliant, Iqbal responded to this by telling us that 'You may be scared to try something but once you try it and you see the results, that fear goes away'

He said 'I know you will remember me' and I'm sure that our time with Iqbal ji is something that each of us could never forget.
A true artisan.
